numan = love

I first heard Gary Numan when he came onstage to perform Metal and Cars with Nine Inch Nails last July. Trent counts him as a huge influence, and in a completely unbiased way I can see why. Gary Numan is amazing. He has a wonderful voice, he’s one of those rare artists that, like David Bowie, appeal to both the mainstream and alternative cultures, his songs are interesting and he’s somewhat the forefather of industrial/darkwave. Also like David Bowie, his style has changed and evolved; perhaps he hasn’t take on completely new personas every few years like Bowie, but 1979’s The Pleasure Principal is very noticeably different from 2005’s Jagged, the former being a more electronica/pop album, the latter being a darker industrial offering. I love both equally. It would be truly impossible not to. Here is another artist who has made a huge impact in the musical world, and is genuinely talented and not a sell-out.

I can’t wait to see him at Sonisphere. Fuck everyone else playing on Friday, with the exception of Alice Cooper there is nobody else I even want to see. I’ll be right at the front, trust me. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
